Tags, series, studios: what each entry point is for

They all list a set of titles, but they answer different questions. Pick the wrong one and you can page through ten pages without finding the kind of title you want.

The site has six kinds of entity pages (tag / series / studio / label / director / code prefix), and each one opens a list of titles. They look like the same thing, but they serve completely different purposes.

Tags: find by content

Tags describe what's in the title. To find a certain kind of content, start from the tag index, or check tags in the filter panel on the results page — filters stack, so tag + year + duration narrow things down together.

Series: follow-ups from the same project

A series is the run of titles made under the same project. If you finished one and want the next, the series index is far more precise than tags: tags only give you “similar”, a series gives you “what comes next”.

Studios / labels: find by producer

  • A studio is the producer and distributor; one studio often runs several labels.
  • If you go by brand, start from the studio index or the label index — a label's style is usually consistent, which gets closer to “I want something with this feel” than tags do.

A rule of thumb

First decide whether you want “this kind” or “this run”: use tags for a kind, series to keep watching, and studios/labels for a style.
